In 1914 this Scottish immigrant Mary Agnes “Polly” Thomson (1855 – March 21, 1960) was hired as housekeeper to deaf-blind
author, lecturer and activist Helen Keller; she trained to become
Keller's private secretary, and together with Keller's teacher and
confidante Anne Sullivan the trio were nicknamed the "Three Musketeers";
when Sullivan died in 1936, Thomson filled Sullivan's role as constant
companion as well; upon Keller's death in 1968, she was buried alongside
Sullivan and Thomson at the Washington National Cathedral.
