Jesse Lydell Peck (July 7, 1899 - January 25, 1957) was a lawyer and state fire marshal. He was the ex-hushand of actress Janet Gaynor.

He was born in San Francisco. A prominent San Francisco and Oakland attorney, Peck was a script writer and assistant director for several years after graduating in 1922 from Washington and Lee University in Virginia. At Washington and Lee, he was director of the Dramatic Club and became friendly with Anderson Lawler.

He married Janet Gaynor in 1929. The marriage ended in divorce in 1932. Gaynor was married three times and had one child. All her husband were apparently homosexual.

He served as state fire marshal from 1939 to 1943, appointed by Gov. Culbert Olson, and was for a time secretary of the state reclamation board.

In 1941, he married Ruthmarie Laumeister of a prominent San Francisco family. They were divorced in 1953.

Peck died on January 25, 1957, shortly after entering Herrick Memorial Hospital in Berkeley. He was 57 and made his home in Lafayette. Surviving Peck are two daughters, Susan Gay Peck and Bonnie Lydell Peck.
