Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb (August 27, 1841 – December 9, 1905) was a distinguished British classical scholar, academic, and politician.

Born in Dundee, Scotland, to Robert Jebb, an Irish barrister, and Emily Harriet Horsley, he was educated at St. Columba’s College in Dublin and Charterhouse School. He went on to study at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he established himself as a brilliant student, winning the Porson and Craven scholarships and emerging as the "Senior Classic" in 1862.

After his graduation, he was elected a fellow and tutor of Trinity College in 1863. He later served as the University's public orator (1869–1875) and returned to serve as the Regius Professor of Greek from 1889 until his death.

He held the chair of Professor of Greek at the University of Glasgow from 1875 to 1889.

Jebb was elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament for Cambridge University in 1891, a seat he held until 1905.

He was instrumental in founding several academic institutions, including the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies (1879), the British School of Archaeology at Athens (1887), and the British Academy (1902).

Jebb was a member of the Cambridge Apostles, an intellectual secret society at Cambridge, having joined in 1859 during his time at Trinity College.

He was knighted in 1900 and awarded the Order of Merit in 1905.

He was renowned for his translations of classical Greek works, most notably his editions of Sophocles, as well as his writings on the Attic Orators and the Characters of Theophrastus.

In 1874, Jebb married Caroline Lane Reynolds, the widow of U.S. Army Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer. Jebb passed away on 9 December 1905 at his home, Springfield House, in Cambridge, and was buried at the Parish of the Ascension Burial Ground.
