Partner Ian Scott, buried together
Queer Places:

Joseph Kimball "Kim" Yakabuski (April 27, 1956 - November 24, 1993) was a Canadian lawyer and the long-time partner of former Ontario Attorney General Ian Scott.
Kimball Yakabuski was the son of former Progressive Conservative MPP Paul Yakabuski and Doreen Mary Conway. His brother was the Progressive Conservative MPP John Yakabuski. He graduated from the bar in 1986. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s he practiced law in Toronto, working closely within prominent legal and political circles.
Kimball was the partner of Ian Scott, who served as the Attorney General of Ontario from 1985 to 1990 and was widely regarded as one of the most consequential legal reformers in the province's history. The two lived together for over a dozen years. Because Scott was a high-profile public official at a time when being openly gay was politically risky, they kept their relationship entirely private from the public eye. Scott kept the relationship so guarded that even his own brother, David Scott (who moved in the exact same legal circles), did not officially know Kimball's name or the true nature of their relationship until shortly before Kimball's death.
When Kimball became gravely ill with AIDS, Scott stepped away from the intense demands of front-bench politics, eventually resigning his seat in the legislature in 1992. Scott remained by Kimball's side, caring for him at their home until he passed away in late 1993. Kimball Yakabuski passed away from AIDS-related complications on 24 Nov 1993 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 37. Ian Scott's obituary for Yakabuski was the first time Scott spoke in public about their relationship.
Following Kimball's death and a subsequent debilitating stroke that Scott suffered in 1994, Scott became much more open about his life. In his later years and through his memoirs, Scott proudly acknowledged Kimball as the love of his life and ensured that their relationship was cemented as an essential part of his personal legacy.
