Sir George Otto Trevelyan, 2nd Baronet (20 July 1838 – 17 August 1928), was a prominent British statesman, historian, and author. He was a significant figure in Victorian Liberal politics, serving as a cabinet minister under William Ewart Gladstone and the Earl of Rosebery.

Born at Rothley Temple, Leicestershire, he was the son of Sir Charles Trevelyan, 1st Baronet, and Hannah More Macaulay, sister of the historian Lord Macaulay. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Trevelyan had a ministerial career spanning nearly 30 years. He is best known for his two terms as Secretary for Scotland. He also served as Chief Secretary for Ireland (1882–1884) during a period of intense agrarian unrest and political volatility, an office he found deeply taxing.

Alongside his political life, he was a respected historian and biographer. His notable works include The Life and Letters of Lord Macaulay (1876) and a six-volume history of the American Revolution. He was awarded the Order of Merit (OM) in 1911.

He married Caroline Philips in 1869; they had three sons, including the noted historian George Macaulay Trevelyan (G.M. Trevelyan).

While his son, the historian George Macaulay Trevelyan, was a well-documented member of the Cambridge Apostles (the elite secret society at Trinity College), Sir George Otto Trevelyan was also a member of this society during his own time at Cambridge.

Historical records of the Apostles confirm his involvement during his undergraduate years at Trinity, where he was a contemporary of many influential figures and served as President of the Cambridge Union Society.
