IN MEMORY OF SANDRA CANFIELD

Beloved romance author Sandra Canfield (aka Karen Keast and Sandi Shane; b. 1944) passed away on January 23, 2003 in Shreveport, Louisiana following a lengthy illness.

A charter member of RWA, Ms. Canfield was the recipient of numerous writing awards and honors, including a Romantic Times Award in 1988-89 Continuing Series Romance (Mariah) and a RITA in 1991 for Romantic Suspense (Night Spice).

She wrote a weekly opinion column for The Shreveport Times.

"Night into Day by Sandra Canfield is another buried treasure read. How many romances out there can you recommend that feature an imperfect heroine? Are you looking for a romance that deals with realistic issues? Are you looking for a book that features mature adults who knock down obstacles to find their way to happiness?

Alex Farrell has suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for 10 years. It’s the kind of RA that is deformative, debilitating and painful. Besides having to deal with that, Alex’s previous relationship nearly destroyed her self-esteem so she is a bit wary of starting a new relationship. The hero, Patrick O’Casey is a famous football player who is charming and cocky. He spots Alex from across the room at a party and remarks on her beauty. Almost immediately he asks her to dance only to realize too late that she is in a wheelchair.

Patrick unfortunately, makes quite a few blunders with Alex when faced with her disability. However, Patrick refuses to be thwarted and keeps on trying to win Alex over. See, Patrick feels as if Alex can see deep into his soul. Patrick could have any woman he wanted but he didn’t want anyone who was superficial or fake. He wanted a real woman. He wants peace within himself and he feels that he has found it with Alex. Of course Patrick is given time to make a decision about being in a relationship with someone with a disability. It is not a easy decision to make. That means understanding that there will be fumbles that also include the emotional pitfalls in having to deal with Alex’s long-term illness. Aside from Patrick’s fears and uncertainties, Alex has to convince herself that someone actually wants her and loves her. Their journey to the HEA is a nice one to watch unfold.

This book I believe is out of print. If ever your in the used bookstore, you should seek this one out. Unfortunately, the author herself lost her battle to Rheumatoid Arthritis. She left behind a decent sized backlist that is worth checking out. My grade, A. This book is a keeper because the author managed to make me believe that these two people were meant for each other. This was a very entertaining read that had the added touch of emotion that left a stupid smile on my face. Read it."

"Night into Day di Sandra Canfield è un'altro tesoro sepolto. Quanto romanzi la fuori puoi raccomandare in cui la protagonista è una eroina imperfetta? Stai cercando un romance che tratti con problemi reali? Stai cercando un libro che abbia come protagonista degli adulti maturi che abbattono gli ostacoli per trovare la loro strada verso la felicità?

Alex Farrell ha sofferto di Artrite Reumatoide per 10 anni. E' un genere di Artrite che è deformante, debilitante e dolorosa. A parte il dover trattare con questo, la precedente relazione di Alex ha quasi distrutto la sua autostima così è un poco preoccupata di cominciare una nuova relazione. L'eroe, Patrick O’Casey è un famoso giocatore di football affascinante e arrogante. Vede Alex attraverso la stanza ad una festa e nota la sua bellezza. Quasi immediatamente le chiede di ballare solo per realizzare troppo tardi che lei è su una sedia a rotelle.

Patrick sfortunatamente, fa delle gaffe piuttosto gravi con Alex quando è messo a confronto con la sua infermità. Tuttavia, Patrick rifiuta di farsi indietro e continua a cercare di conquistare Alex. Vedete, Patrick sente come se Alex possa vedere nel profondo della sua anima. Patrick può avere qualsiasi donna desideri ma lui non desidera qualcuno che sia superficiale o finto. Lui desidera una vera donna. Lui desidera la pace con se stesso e sente di averla trovata con Alex. Naturalmente a Patrick deve essere dato del tempo per decidere di avere una relazione con una donna che ha una infermità. Non è una decisione semplice da prendere. Questo significa capire che ci saranno imbarazzi che includeranno problemi emotivi nell'avere a che fare con la malattia a lungo termine di Alex. A parte le paure ed incertezze di Patrick, Alex deve convincere se stessa che qualcuno realmente desideri lei e la ami. Il loro percorso verso un lieto fine è una bella cosa cui assistere.

Questo libro credo sia fuori catalogo. Se mai andaste in una libreria dell'usato, cercatelo. Sfortunatamente, l'autrice ha essa stessa perso la sua battaglia con l'Artrite Reumatoide. Lascia una bella bibliografia che vale la pena consultare. Il mio giudizio è A. Questo libro è un keeper perchè l'autrice è riuscita a farmi credere che queste due persone erano destinate l'una all'altro. E' una lettura davvero piacevole che ha il tocco aggiunto di emozione che ha lasciato un sorriso stupido sul mio volto. Leggetelo".
