Sofie Podlipská, née Rottová (15 May 1833 in Prague – 17 December 1897 in Prague[1]) was a Czech writer
and patriot, and the sister of Karolina Světlá. Sofie Podlipská mostly wrote historical novels, juvenile works, and feminist literature.[2] She also had an interest in Theosophy[3] and helped found the "American Ladies' Club." The name had no geographical meaning instead the word "American" was to designate it as modern and for progress.[4] Her work emphasized motherhood and morality.[5]
The nineteenth-century Czech writer Bozena Nemcova wrote to Sofie Rottová, “Believe me, sometimes I dream that your eyes are right in front of me, I am drowning in them, and they have the same sweet expression as they did when they used to ask: ‘Bozena, what’s wrong? Bozena, I love you.’”
