Kuhnen de La Cœuillerie (October 28, 1905 - September 19, 1993) was
a Belgian poet and translator who wrote in French. Her pen name associates the
name of her father Louis Kuhnen (originally written Coenen) with that of her
mother, the singer Marie de La Cœuillerie. In 1940, she moved to Ghent,
wanting to return to the roots of her family since her ancestors had lived
there in the sixteenth century. From 1955 she lived with the painter Suzanne
Bomhals. She regularly published poems in the weekly Le Courrier de Gand.
From 1951 to 1975, she was a familiar figure at the Maurice
Carême International Poetry Biennial, which was then held at
the Casino in Knokke. She published collections of her poems and aphorisms as
well as collections of poems adapted from Vietnamese, Chinese and Hebrew. Her
texts have been translated into twelve languages.
