Rutherford Roland Hall was born in Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia, to Samuel Oscar Hall
(1856–1932) and
Elizabeth Steele Houston (1869–1939). While at Washington and Lee University,
Isham W. Perkins aka Dash
had a boyfriend, Harry Agneau (pseudonym of Rutherford Roland Hall), who
committed suicide when he and Dash were expelled due to their relationship
being unveiled.
Rutherford Roland Hall, eldest son of Rev. Samuel Oscar Hall, former pastor of the Presbyterian church in Lexington, VA, drowned in the North river near Lexington. The young man was a senior at Washington and Lee University and would have received his degrees the month of his death.
