Olive Cole Boyle (October 20, 1883 – April 13, 1955) was born on October 20, 1883, in San Francisco, California, to her parents John Boyle and Helen
Milliken Clark. Raised in California, she grew up alongside several siblings, including her elder sister, the noted American sculptor
Gertrude Farquharson Boyle Kanno.
Throughout her life, Olive maintained strong familial ties and provided key support for her sister's artistic and personal legacy. Following the death of Gertrude Boyle Kanno in August 1937, Olive emerged as one of her sister's primary advocates, working alongside Gwendolyn Carter and Reba Thompson. Notably, all three of these main champions for Gertrude's legacy were gay, tying Olive directly to early LGBTQ support networks surrounding her sister's bohemian circle and posthumous artistic recognition.
During her later years, records show that Olive immigrated to San Francisco, California, in 1947 and was recorded residing in San Francisco as of the 1950 census. She spent the final years of her life in Northern California until her death on April 13, 1955, in Santa Cruz, California, at the age of 71. Following her death, she was laid to rest at the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, San Mateo County, California.
