Marcia Frost Newell (May 7, 1931 - August 7, 2012) worked for 37 years as a geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey.
Marcia Frost Newell was born in Cleveland and raised in Baltimore. She was a 1953 geology graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She was a member of the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy in Broad Run.
Newell retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in 1991. She studied Lower Paleozoic Era fossils and researched radiometric dating, the study of the age of rocks and geological features.
Newell died August 7, 2012, at her home in Broad Run, near the boundary between Fauquier and Prince William counties. She died after a heart attack. Her partner of 40 years, Jennie Lea Knight, died in 2007.
