Herman Schrijver (March 4, 1904 – February 10, 1972) was a friend of Margaret Jourdain and Ivy Compton-Burnett. A Dutch Jew, he was an interior decorator whose clients included the Duke of Windsor.
Herman Schrijver was a Dutchman who spent much of his life in England. He was the son of Michel Schrijver (1865-1943) and Rika Hermina Meijers (1870-1943). Both his parents died at Sobibor extermination camp. His older sister was Elka Schrijver (1899-1989). As a child, he lived at Preston Park, a famous example of Victorian architecture outside Brighton.
In 1939 he lived in a flat in South Audley Street.
He was a friend of Cyril Connolly who inscribed his book, Enemies of Promise, first edition to Schrijver , “ from Cyril Connolly — thirty years later”.
He died 10 February 1972. After his death, his correspondence with Rhys Davies was returned to the latter by Schrijver's friend, Charles Burkhart. Herman and Nancy and Ivy is a 1977 book by Burkhart. Herman Schrijver, Ivy Compton-Burnett, and Nancy Cunard had little in common, but all three were friends of Charles Burkhart.
