Esther Steele (1887 - March 3, 1964) was Fletcher Steele's sister. One of Esther's frequent companions was Marjorie Ward Seldon, a native Rochesterian (and distant relative of Clayla Ward, Charlotte Whitney Allen's friend) who also worked for many years as Fletcher's Rochester project manager, communicating with the Boston offie about construction and planting details. Marge was a strong, well-built woman who bore an uncanny resemblance, one client claimed, to Margaret Rutherford. She spoke her mind, preferred overalls to hats and fur coats, and was building her house from bits and pieces of discarded architecturals fragments gathered throughout the city. She was probably Esther and Fletcher's closest shared friend. After Esther's death, Marge remained close to Fletcher, and she was with him the night he died.
