Doyle Maurice Levy (June
21, 1930 – February 5, 1983), a teacher at Booker T. Washington High School, was murdered in February 1983. His body was found at the Surf Motel in Ocean View with multiple stab wounds and a slashed throat. Gregory Schroeder, a married 19-year-old Marine lance corporal, was charged with the slaying. Schroeder pled guilty in a case that focused on gay-bashing and robbery.
Levy is buried at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.
