Davis Page Platt (October 17, 1923 – October 3, 2008) was a civil and gay rights activist. He was a lover of Bayard Rustin.[1]
Davis Page Platt was born on February 17, 1923, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of John Osgood Platt (1874-1947) and Mary Cox Page (1900-1977).[2][1]
Platt was a key figure in Gay groups like Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), Identity House, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. He was a longtime volunteer for The Samaritans, a suicide prevention hotline.[1]
In 1943 he became close friend, and later lover, of Bayard Rustin (1912-1987).[1]
Platt died on October 3, 2008, in New York City.[1]
In the 2003 documentary Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, Platt remembered his relationship with Rustin. Platt was interviewed by Walter Naegle, Rustin's surviving partner. According to Naegle, he owed Platt "a debt of gratitude [for making it] easier for me" when he became the partner of Rustin.[1]
