Husband Peter Weltner

Peter Weltner grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey and in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, North Carolina, though his true home as a boy was Manhattan, where his family was from and his deeper roots were planted. Weltner received his A.B. from Hamilton College and his Ph.D. from Indiana University. In August 1969, he moved to San Francisco. 1969 to 1972 for him were "three years of the usual coming-out craziness and joy." In the fall of 1973, Weltner met Bob Mohr with whom he lived on Telegraph Hill for the next seven years. Friends introduced Peter and Atticus Carr (born January 17, 1954) in 1986 when Atticus had just quit his job at Valley Medical Center, moved to San Francisco, and begun graduate school. Carr received his MSW from San Jose State University in 1988. The son of a military man in a large family, Atticus moved often until they settled first in Salinas, then in San Jose, California. Like Atticus, all his siblings have been employed in compassionate professions, dedicated to helping others. He has been working exclusively with people with HIV since 1990.
